The larger flat piece was tumble polished. The other piece is face polished 3 sides and left natural on the back. Gem bone is the agatized fossilized remains of the bones of dinosaurs. It's found in Utah. These are 1. 22 and 1. 65 in inches at their longest side. Expect that natural stones often have imperfections.
