223はかつて、自身の写真から１、２、３枚をベストショットとして名指ししたり選んだりするのはとてつもなく難しい、と私に語ったことがある。なぜなら、それぞれがひとつの記憶について、彼の人生の親密な一瞬について物語っているからだという。そうした発言に、私は付け加えよう。1枚の写真の美しさをもたらすのは、イメージだけではない。その構図、色彩、反射能、完成度あるいはシンプルさに、現実の記憶やイメージによって喚起される感覚までもが絡み合って成立するのだ。そう考えて見るならば、『123 Polaroids』は、ひとりの詩人の含意と豊かさが、自身の親密な記念写真や喚起された感覚に独自のやりかたで「声」を与えるさまを伝えているといえよう。
