Made from quality solid North American Steel and then chrome plated it is the ideal Olympic bar for home use. York has created a nice medium quality 28. 5mm bar at a great price point. Although this bar has a 500lb static test, that does not factor in the torque during certain exercises. Just to give you an idea, you would probably be okay using this bar for bench press
