タイトルのUgliciousは、「醜いけれど美味しいもの」という意味が込められている。

初版は2008年発行のセカンドエディション。

ブラウス、ネクタイ、グローブ、襟など、服飾における用語ごとに画像や文章を類別し「事典」。しかし、その用語から普段想像するものだけでなく、おそらくそのカテゴリーに収まるのではないか、と思われる画像も含んでいる。例えばグローブは「手を包むもの」。それならば、と本書は手が突っ込まれたジーンズのポケットやスポーツ選手の手に巻かれたテーピングまでも「グローブ」に分類。スカーフは「首の周りに着用する長い布」とし、カメラストラップやタオル、緩めたネクタイなど。その型にはまらない定義とリサーチ力のあるビジュアルが想像力を刺激する。
