Todd and was originally published in the 1884 edition of the "The Fisheries and Fishery Industries of the United States". It was the first book in a multi volume series produced by George Brown Goode, the famed ichthyologist (fish scientist), Smithsonian museum administrator, and U. S. Fish Commissioner. He managed a large staff of scientists, researchers, and clerical employees to produce
